Farm Drought Support Grants: New name, same purpose
If you’re a primary producer in Victoria, there’s good news for your drought preparedness efforts. As of 4 July 2025, the On-Farm Drought Infrastructure Grants program has been renamed to the Farm Drought Support Grants program.
While the name has changed, the purpose, rules, and eligibility criteria remain the same, continuing to provide vital funding to help farmers manage and prepare for drought conditions.
What’s available?
The Farm Drought Support Grants offer financial assistance to eligible primary production businesses across Victoria, with two tiers of funding available:
- Up to $5,000 (ex GST): Available to eligible businesses statewide, including all Victorian Local Government Areas (LGAs). A dollar-for-dollar co-contribution is required.
- Up to $10,000 (ex GST): Available to eligible primary producers in south-west Victoria. If you’ve already received a grant under this program, you can apply for the difference up to the $10,000 cap.
This funding is designed to help farmers invest in infrastructure and systems that improve their resilience to drought and ensure the sustainability of their operations.
What can it fund?
The grants can be used for a wide range of projects that enhance drought management and preparedness. Eligible activities include:
- Stock Containment Areas (SCA): Protect your pastures and manage livestock during dry periods.
- Reticulated Water Systems: Improve water distribution across your property.
- Irrigation Upgrades: Boost efficiency and reduce water waste.
- Grain and Fodder Storage: Safeguard feed supplies for livestock.
- Internal Re-Fencing: Optimise property layout for better grazing and water access.
- Feed System Upgrades: Modernise feeding systems to improve efficiency.
- Pasture and Crop Restoration: Rehabilitate land to improve productivity.
- Water Carting: Support livestock and essential business activities during drought.
These projects are designed to help farmers not only survive drought conditions but also thrive in the long term by building more sustainable and efficient operations.
When does it close?
Applications for the Farm Drought Support Grants are open until 30 June 2026, or until funds are fully allocated — whichever comes first. With limited funding available, it’s important to act quickly to secure your grant.
